Profile:
HITOSHI KIYA is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Information and Communications System at Tokyo Metropolitan University. He received his B.E and M.E. degrees from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan, in 1980 and 1982 respectively, and a Dr. Eng. degree from Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1987, all in electrical engineering. In 1982, he joined Tokyo Metropolitan University as an Assistant Professor, where he became a Full Professor in 2000. From 1995 to 1996, he attended the University of Sydney, NSW, Australia as a Visiting Fellow.
His research interests are in the areas of multirate signal processing and image processing including wavelets, video coding, compressed-domain video manipulation and security for multimedia. He has published over 300 refereed papers in international conferences and journals, as well as seven books in these areas. He also holds ten patents in the US and Japan. He received the IEICE Best Paper Award in 2008.
He is a Fellow of the IEICE and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
